Sunday 23rd April 2017
Drive it day
Report by Peter Mitchell
Drive-it day which, this year, we,
the Pompey Puddleducks, joined in with the Clouseau’s
Drive-it Day with Le Club Clouseau
Sunday 23rd. April saw thirteen vehicles gather at a handy supermarket car park in Chichester. Some arrived earlier than others to partake of breakfast in the cafe.
Bob and Carol led us off for a nice jaunt through the back roads of Sussex, passing the Rolls Royce factory and then along parts of Stane Street – the old Roman road that ran from London Bridge to Chichester.
We passed through many little villages, one in particular very busy with a farm open day and lambing going on, and then through woods of bluebells, primroses and wild daffodils to stop at Whiteways Lodge Countryside area which includes a large area of chalk grassland, a middle bronze-age Cross Dyke, toilets and a cafe and, on this occasion, a large amount of motor bikes and cars of varying ages.
We then moved on with views across the Arun Valley and South Downs until we arrived at the 15th Century (in fact parts date from 1382) Swan Inn at Fittleworth where lunch had been arranged for us in the ‘Barn’ where the food was good and the staff very friendly.
An excellent day out and many thanks to Le Club Clouseau for organising it.
