Pompey Puddleducks Drive-it Day 2019
We have, for the past two years, been using the Hollycombe Steam Museum facilities for the Fils de Vitesse New Year Day barbecue. During the winter the actual museum is closed so we thought it might be nice to visit it when in steam.
Sean, who is a volunteer there, arranged for us to use the overflow field. We had one half and about 135 Triumphs the other. The field is huge so it worked well.
Other local 2cv clubs joined in and we had about 55 Citroens, 43 being ‘A’ series. John Mitchell, pictured leaning over the yellow and blue 2cv, was over from North Carolina visiting his daughter. She brought him along as he has a Charleston back home.
Various clubs brought along Citroen 100th Anniversary cakes which went down well. Lynne made the Puddleducks a lovely big cake, above which you could see the brandy fumes shimmering. It even came in a box decorated with hundreds of 2cvs. Jef and Anne made 100 lovely little cakes – all numbered so you could choose which year to eat. The other cakes were scrummy too, thanks to everyone for the effort they put in.
The museum gave us a 40% discount on the usual entry fee so, after lunch, most people went and investigated the sights and sounds of a working steam fair. The train rides through the bluebell woods were very popular and even the last train of the day was full. There is a good walk through the grounds as well with some interesting things to discover.
Although the weather wasn’t as hot as the weekend before it had its moments and there was no sign of rain.
Thanks to Hollycombe for another good 2cv day out.
